Shift lever – removal and installation

1. If equipped, remove the center console (see Body). With the parking brake on and the wheels blocked, place the shift lever in Neutral.

2. Remove the retaining screws for the shift lever boot and slide the shift lever boot up the shift lever.

3. Remove the four shift tower mounting bolts and remove the shift lever and tower from the transmission as a single assembly.

4. Disassemble the shift lever assembly and clean the parts in solvent. Blow every­thing dry with compressed air, coat all friction surfaces with clean multi-purpose grease, then reassemble.

5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the shift tower mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.
