Hemi engine
This Part is devoted to in-vehicle repair procedures for Hemi engines. All information concerning engine removal and installation and engine overhaul can be found in Part 3.6L V6 engine of this Chapter.
Since the repair procedures included in this Part are based on the assumption that the engine is still installed in the vehicle, if they are being used during a complete engine overhaul (with the engine already out of the vehicle and on a stand) many of the steps included here will not apply.
These Hemi engines use a cast iron engine block with aluminum cylinder heads and intake manifold. The cylinder banks are positioned at a 90-degree angle with the camshaft mounted high in the engine block. The valvetrain includes roller lifters, with pushrods positioned between the camshaft and rocker arms in a nearly horizontal plane. The camshaft can only be removed after the cylinder heads and valvetrain components (rocker arms, pushrods and lifters) have been removed.
