Fuel pressure relief procedure

Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system.

1. Remove the fuel filler cap (this will relieve any pressure that has built-up in the tank).

2. Remove the cover from the fuse and relay center in the engine compartment, then remove the 20 amp ASD fuse (see illustration).

2.2 To depressurize the fuel system, remove the 20 amp ASD fuse (there may be more than one ASD fuse, but only one of them is a 20 amp). This is the location on our project 2012 Ram 1500 with a 4.7L V8, but you’ll have to use the guide on the underside of the fuse/relay box cover to locate the proper fuse on your model

3. Turn the ignition key to START and crank over the engine for several seconds. It will either start momentarily and immediately stall, or it won’t start at all.

4. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position.

5. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal before beginning work on the fuel system (see Engine electrical systems).

6. After all work on the fuel system has been completed, install the fuse.

7. Reconnect the battery cable.
