Fuel Control Actuator (FCA) – replacement

Warning: Diesel fuel is flammable, so take extra precautions when you work on any part of the fuel system. See the Warning in Sec­tion Fuel transfer pump – check and replacement.

Note: The FCA is located on the rear of the fuel injection pump.

1. Thoroughly clean off the area around the FCA.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the FCA (see illustration).

5.2 To detach the FCA from the back of the fuel injection pump, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the two FCA mounting bolts

3. Remove the FCA mounting bolts and remove the FCA.

4. Remove and discard the old FCA 0-ring.
Always install a new 0-ring before installing the FCA.

5. Inspect the FCA for corrosion and damage. Shake the FCA. It should rattle; if it doesn’t, replace it.

6. Apply a little clean light grease to the new 0-rings and install the FCA on the fuel injection pump. Make sure that the FCA is flush with its mounting surface on the injection pump, then tighten the FCA mounting bolts to the torque listed in this Chapter’s Specifications.

7. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.
