Chassis electrical system

The electrical system is a 12-volt, nega­tive ground type. A lead/acid-type battery that is charged by the alternator supplies power for the lights and all electrical accessories.

This Chapter covers repair and service procedures for the various electrical compo­nents not associated with the engine. Infor­mation on the battery, alternator, distributor and starter motor can be found in Chapter Engine electrical systems. Warning: When working on the electrical sys­tem, disconnect the cable (s) from the nega­tive battery terminal(s) to prevent electrical shorts and/or fires (see Engine electrical systems).
