3.6L V6 engine

1. This Chapter is devoted to in-vehicle repair procedures for the 3.6L V6 engine.

2. The 3.6 liter engine utilizes Variable Valve Timing (VVT), Dual Overhead Camshafts (DOHC), four timing chains, an aluminum cylinder block, steel cylinder sleeves or liners with six cylinders arranged in a «V»-shape, with 60-degrees between the two banks. The 3.6 liter engine has a chain-driven oil pump with a multi-stage pressure regulator to increase fuel economy. The exhaust manifolds are integral with the cylinder heads to make the engine lighter.

Caution: This engine is of an interference design and severe engine damage will occur if the timing chain breaks.

3. The cylinders are numbered from front to rear. The right bank is numbered 1, 3, 5 and the left bank is numbered 2, 4, 6. The firing order is 1-2-3-4-5-6.

4. The following repair procedures are based on the assumption that the engine is installed in the vehicle. If the engine has been removed from the vehicle and mounted on a stand, many of the steps outlined in this Part of Chapter 2 do not apply.
